Weatherald Ruled Out of Shield Match with Concussion
Weatherald was replaced by concussion substitute Matthew Gilkes after a head knock while fielding and could miss South Australia’s next match under Cricket Australia protocols.
On Thursday, South Australia opener Jake Weatherald was ruled out of the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria after developing delayed concussion symptoms.
Weatherald collided with a picket fence and concrete wall on Wednesday while chasing an Ollie Peake drive during Victoria's first innings.
Concussion substitute Matthew Gilkes replaced Weatherald in South Australia's line-up at Junction Oval, permitted to bat in The Redbacks' second innings.
Facing mandatory Cricket Australia concussion protocols, Weatherald may miss South Australia's next match against Queensland from October 19-22.
The 31-year-old had been dropped from the Test squad in August after a lean run during the Bangladesh series, complicating his bid to regain national selection.
