On Tuesday, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) published a photo by Czech photographer Jakub Kuřák titled "Perseids from Perseus" as the Astronomical Image of the Day. The image was created in a time-lapse over less than a week and shows the maximum of the Perseid meteor shower at Jizerka in the Jizerské Mountains.

This year was very favorable for the Perseid meteor shower. One of the main reasons was that the Moon did not illuminate the night sky above Earth, so more meteors were visible than usual. This beauty was captured by Czech photographer Petr Kuřák, who was awarded a NASA award for his work.
