Aldi to invest £900 million in Britain in 2027
The discounter said the expansion will support market share gains after 2025 operating profit held flat at £432.9 million.
Aldi announced on Monday a £900 million investment for next year, including opening 40 new stores and upgrading its distribution network across Britain.
Owned by Germany's Aldi Sud, the discounter operates 1,092 stores and ranks as Britain's fourth-largest grocer, trailing Tesco, Sainsbury, and Asda.
Sales rose 0.7 per cent over the 12 weeks to September 6, giving Aldi a 10.6 per cent market share, while the company spent £340 million reducing prices this year.
Beyond the 40-store expansion, Aldi plans to open 30 additional stores over the next 10 weeks, maintaining its rapid growth trajectory in Britain's competitive grocery market.
CEO Giles Hurley identified food costs as a primary pressure on UK households, noting that recent droughts and global events have exposed the fragility of the food system.
