Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Crisis on Board Aircraft in Côte-Nord

Four passengers and a flight attendant restrained the man, and police said 13 people were aboard the regional plane.

  • On Wednesday, passengers on a Quebec flight restrained a man who attempted to enter the cockpit, forcing an emergency landing at La Romaine Airport. Sûreté du Québec officers arrested the suspect upon arrival.
  • The aircraft was traveling along Quebec's Lower North Shore from Blanc-Sablon to Sept-Îles with a scheduled stop in La Romaine. The individual boarded during this stopover before the crisis erupted shortly after takeoff.
  • Four passengers and a flight attendant subdued the man, who is in his 30s. He allegedly "tried to open the cockpit door and caused some damage to the toilet door," SQ spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier explained.
  • Police transported the suspect to a hospital for treatment, though his life is not in danger. Tessier noted several passengers remained in a state of shock following the incident.
  • An investigation is underway by the SQ to determine if charges will be submitted to the prosecutor. The remaining 13 passengers and crew were able to catch another flight to Sept-Îles.
