Eight habeas corpus petitions under 28 U.S.C. § 2241 were recently filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky by people held in immigration detention, nearly all at the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington. These petitions ask a federal judge to review the lawfulness or length of detention. Year to date, 188 such petitions have been filed in the district.
