Montclair Police Investigate $70,000 Pabst Beer Cargo Theft
Police say the thefts may be linked to a fraudulent cargo operation, and Pabst Blue Ribbon offered a reward for information.
- A truck loaded with more than 50,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer disappeared in Southern California, prompting a police investigation and an unusual public appeal from the brewery regarding the stolen shipment bound for Tucson, Arizona.
- Montclair Police Department officials reported that a shipment of 40,000 pounds of beer valued at roughly $45,000 was picked up Aug 17 using fraudulent documentation and never reached its intended destination in Arizona.
- Investigators are also examining a second cargo theft that occurred about an hour later at the same distribution center, where suspects allegedly obtained roughly $25,000 worth of Anheuser-Busch and Pabst Blue Ribbon products using similar fraudulent paperwork.
- Pabst issued an ultimatum to the thief, stating they have "exactly 18 days and 44 minutes" to return the truck, no questions asked, and warning, "P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious."
- The brewery continues to seek information, posting "Beer is getting warmer, trail is getting colder. Clock's still ticking," while authorities have not yet identified any suspects or leads regarding the missing cargo.
