$28,000,000,000 Down the Drain: The US Navy’s Fleet of 32 Littoral Combat Ships Just Might Be Its Worst Mistake Ever

A 2022 Government Accountability Office review found the Navy had spent more than $28 billion in constant fiscal 2019 dollars to develop and build 32 Littoral Combat Ships. That is roughly $875 million a ship, against a contract price of about $565 million for the two-ship order the Navy placed with Lockheed Martin and Austal.
