2 organizers of Hong Kong’s Tiananmen vigils convicted in national security case
Two former organizers of Hong Kong's Tiananmen Square vigil were convicted under a national security law imposed by China that targets the city's pro-democracy movement.
Lee Cheuk-yan and Chow Hang-tung, leaders of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, were charged in 2021 with inciting subversion under this law.
The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China was also found guilty in the national security case.
Observers see the trial as a symbol of declining freedom of expression in Hong Kong since its return to Chinese rule in 1997.
