Sparta Soliciting Roof Replacement Bids At Polk St. Fire

Sparta will move forward with soliciting bids to replace the roof at the Polk Street Fire Department. Sparta Fire Chief Kirk Young said the roof has worn down due to age and recent winds. Young said the roof is not leaking but needs to be replaced before the roof further deteriorates. Sparta Mayor Jerry Lowery said the roof replacement is badly needed. Sparta Aldermen Approve Emergency Dam Gearbox Rebuild

The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the emergency rebuilding of the gearbox on the dam Thursday night. Sparta Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the gearbox raises the dam’s gates up and down. The parts worn down after 50-plus years of use.
