A busy drawbridge that connects two Jersey Shore towns in Monmouth County was closed Friday night for emergency repairs, officials said.The Route 71 drawbridge over the Shark River between Belmar and Avon by the Sea was closed beginning at 6 p.m. and the Shark River Channel was closed to marine traffic, according to a statement from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.See the Story

Over the years it has undergone remodeling and other work, and now, winter ’24-’25, the Army Corps of Engineers is undergoing maintenance dredging. The depth of the inlet is kept at 18 feet.
