US Envoys Set for Ukraine Talks After Meeting Putin in Moscow
Zelensky said the talks will focus on restarting trilateral negotiations and ending the war, after Russia stepped up strikes across Ukraine.
On Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelensky will host US presidential envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in Kyiv, following their weekend visit to Moscow. Zelensky confirmed the meeting on Friday, stating his team received details directly from the US presidential office.
According to Kremlin-linked sources, Moscow officials concluded that peace negotiations "reached a dead end" and now see few alternatives to escalation. Russian authorities hope Kushner and Witkoff's visit brings new proposals, though diplomatic expectations remain low.
Russian forces launched 163 attack drones against Ukraine between Wednesday and Thursday, causing damage across 13 regions and wounding 17 people in Odesa. Attacks included a strike on a Coca-Cola production facility in Brovary.
Seeking "real options to bring this war to an end," Zelensky stated his goal is a constructive visit with the American side. Washington's diplomatic stance has shifted under President Donald Trump, who recently floated granting Ukraine Patriots production licenses.
The upcoming mission marks the first time Kushner and Witkoff have visited Ukraine as intermediaries, a trip delegations considered despite security risks regarding officials wanted by Russia, including Budanov.
