Zelenskyy Aide Says Ukraine Deal by Winter 'Realistic'
Budanov said technical talks and prisoner exchanges show progress, but Russia’s territorial demands still block a settlement, officials said.
Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said ending active hostilities by the northern hemisphere winter is a realistic goal set by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Budanov confirmed upcoming visits by US representatives to Ukraine and Russia to discuss security issues and noted that technical-level negotiations have continued despite a pause in talks at the highest levels.
Budanov stated that while Russia is reluctant to negotiate peace, the chances are higher than ever that Moscow may be forced to agree to certain steps to end hostilities due to increased pressure.
President Zelenskyy noted Ukraine's improved battlefield strengths and emphasized the importance of diplomatic talks before winter, linking it to pressure on Russia from sanctions and military setbacks.
