- On Monday, YouTube announced higher entry requirements for the YouTube Partner Program, effective February 1, 2027, doubling thresholds for new creators seeking ad revenue sharing.
- Currently, creators need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours over the past year or 10 million Shorts views over 90 days; the new rules require 8,000 watch hours or 20 million Shorts views to qualify.
- To earn Shorts revenue, creators must maintain 10 million qualified Shorts views over a rolling 90-day period; Amjad Hanif, YouTube's VP of creator product, said the policy rewards creators who drive engagement.
- Existing YouTube Partner Program members retain their status, though they may lose Shorts revenue sharing if views fall below 10 million. Hanif stated, "If you are in YPP today, you stay in YPP."
- YouTube is expanding Premium Lite to all countries where Premium is available, while introducing bonuses for YouTube Shopping and brand partnerships to diversify creator earnings beyond ad revenue.
