Young Indigenous artist sought for Okanagan water conference logo
The winning artist will receive $500, coaching from Syilx artist Evelyn Alec and all print-sale profits, organizers said.
The Okanagan Basin Water Board, Okanagan Nation Alliance, and Canadian Water Resources Association launched a contest this month inviting Indigenous youth artists aged 14 to 30 to design the official logo for Environmental Flows 2026.
Scheduled for October 7 to 9 in Kelowna, the third Environmental Flows conference seeks artwork visually expressing what it means for siwBk—water—to flow freely and what is lost when it cannot.
The winning artist receives a $500 prize, 100 per cent of print profits from the event, and two expert coaching sessions with Syilx artist and lead artistic advisor Evelyn Alec.
Interested artists must submit designs with contact details to carmen.weld@obwb.ca by July 9, with the winning piece featured on prints sold at the conference.
This initiative coincides with elevated concerns regarding the Okanagan's long-term precipitation deficits, as communities adopt water use restrictions while preparing for another potential drought year.
