Teen Cyclist Dies in Crash with Parked Lorry in Co Waterford
Gardaí said the 17-year-old cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene as road deaths rose to 80 this year, up from 73 last year.
A teenage cyclist died on Tuesday, June 16th, after colliding with a parked lorry in Ballygalane, Lismore, Co. Waterford, shortly after 11am. The youngster was declared dead at the scene.
This tragedy brings the number of deaths on the State's roads to 80 so far this year, an increase from 73 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.
The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the collision, and authorities closed the N72 for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, though the route has since reopened.
Gardai stated they are "appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision" and request camera footage from anyone travelling the N72 between Lismore and Cappoquin between 10.30am and 11.15am Tuesday.
Those with information are asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station at 48600 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, while a post-mortem examination is scheduled at University Hospital Waterford.
