Talarico makes first appearance in 13-days at music festival after flu absence
His return follows a nine-day flu absence that sparked Republican mockery and missing-person jokes as he prepares for early voting.
On Friday, Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico re-emerged at the Austin City Limits music festival, ending a nine-day absence; campaign spokesperson JT Ennis confirmed Talarico was "meeting with voters at ACL today."
Talarico stepped off the campaign trail Sept. 30 after a flu diagnosis required urgent care in Dallas, though critics alleged his absence masked mental health issues.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and President Donald Trump intensified attacks during his hiatus, with Paxton's campaign demanding "proof of life," launching a "Tala-Freak-Out Tip Line," and promoting missing person posters.
Talarico has Type I diabetes, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says increases risk for "serious flu complications," often resulting in longer recovery times for patients.
Resuming his campaign schedule, Talarico continues challenging Paxton to debates, including on Fox News, and is set to headline a CNN town hall next week.
