Hosepipe ban imposed as Britain braces for third heatwave
YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, JUL 09 – Yorkshire Water's hosepipe ban affects 5 million people due to reservoirs at 55.8% capacity, 26.1% below normal, after the driest and warmest spring on record, officials said.
- A hosepipe ban will be introduced in Yorkshire from Friday due to extremely hot and dry weather conditions, with fines of up to £1,000 for those breaking the ban.
- Yorkshire Water announced the ban after the region faced its driest and warmest spring on record, with rainfall only 15cm between February and June, less than half of the average.
- The water company said the ban is necessary to conserve water supplies and protect the environment, as reservoir levels are currently at 55.8%, which is 26.1% lower than normal for this time of year.
