Construction company YIT Lietuva will build a 29 million euro Leopard 2A8 tank assembly and repair plant in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (LEZ) at the request of Lithuania Defense Services, a company controlled by German defense industry companies KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme.

Lithuania Defense Services, a Jonava district military equipment service company managed by German companies KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetal Landsysteme, has selected a contractor to build a tank assembly and repair plant in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ).
The 13,000 sq m factory will become one of the most important parts of the Lithuanian defense industry infrastructure – in the future, the most modern Leopard 2A8 tanks and other heavy equipment of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will be assembled and serviced here. The total value of the project is approximately 29 million euros.
