SAD's Harsimrat Shows Weapon Used in Nanded Attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Stitches on His Arm
Harsimrat Kaur Badal urged a National Investigation Agency probe, saying the attacks at sacred gurdwaras may be linked and could involve extremist or foreign ties.
- On Sunday, Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a National Investigation Agency probe into the August 13 assassination attempt on her husband, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
- Badal sustained injuries to his right hand during a 'kirpan' attack by a member of the Nihang order inside a gurdwara near Nanded on Thursday. He was discharged Friday and admitted to Medanta Hospital for surgery.
- Harsimrat alleges the August 13 incident shares "several disturbing parallels" with a December 2024 assassination attempt at the Golden Temple, questioning the Punjab Police's handling of the earlier case and citing alleged security lapses.
- Citing a "politicised police establishment in the state," Harsimrat argued that extremist networks or foreign-backed organizations necessitate independent investigation, stating the attacks threaten the sanctity of "Guru Ghars" and concern all devout Sikhs.
- The request for a high-level probe aims to determine if the incidents are connected by a "larger conspiracy," examining potential failure, complicity, or deliberate dereliction of duty by public officials in Punjab.
