Copenhagen authorities are likely to have to pay out tens of millions of Danish kroner from the city coffers after it emerged that they illegally charged wedding fees to around 12,000 couples over the past seven years. Most of them were foreigners who did not have permanent residence in the country and traveled to the picturesque Danish capital to confirm their love with a wedding ceremony.
Copenhagen is a popular destination for those willing to marry. However, since 2018, the city has been charging couples. It's wrong, as recently became known. Now it could be very expensive.

Copenhagen Municipality’s culture and leisure committee has confirmed to The Local that marriage fees from foreign couples who tied the knot in the Danish capital will be refunded, but said the process must first undergo a planning stage.
