Saudis and Houthis exchange strikes, Yemenis flee by boat as Middle East war spreads
The International Organization for Migration says more than 100,000 Yemenis have been displaced as airstrikes and cross-border attacks spread.
- On Thursday, Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthis exchanged fresh strikes as Yemenis fled across the Red Sea to escape the escalating regional conflict.
- The Houthis seized Yemen's entire Red Sea coast following a rapid advance last week, while an attack on the East-West Pipeline disrupted a key alternative route for Gulf oil.
- More than 100,000 Yemenis have been displaced by the fighting, while Saudi Arabia reported the first death in Taif from drone debris, alongside more than 80 previously wounded.
- Fleeing refugee Wahida Omer, 50, described her boat crossing as "frightening, difficult," while Houthi leader Abdul Malik demanded an end to the blockade in a televised speech.
- Global crude prices remain well above $100 a barrel as United States diesel hit a record $6.40 a gallon on Thursday. President Donald Trump has rebuffed Saudi requests for military support, citing stalled Iran negotiations.
