Christian Lundgaard Overcomes Early Collision to Win XPEL Grand Prix
Lundgaard recovered from first-lap damage and won by 0.6241 seconds after Marcus Armstrong’s late engine failure triggered a shootout.
Christian Lundgaard won the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America on Sunday, recovering from last place after lap 1 contact to secure his second victory of the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season.
Marcus Armstrong led with 16 laps remaining, seemingly headed for his first series win, but his engine failed on lap 52, triggering a caution that handed Lundgaard the lead in the final laps.
David Malukas finished 2nd for the third time this season, while Kyffin Simpson claimed 3rd after an impressive charge from 19th on the starting grid.
Championship leader Alex Palou finished 4th after incurring a pit road speeding penalty, allowing Malukas to narrow the gap in the points standings.
The NTT IndyCar Series returns in two weeks at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington for the Honda Indy 200 on July 5.
