China’s Xiaomi Unveils Electric SUV, New Chip in Bid to Rival Tesla, Apple | News Channel 3-12
- Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi launched its first electric SUV, the YU7, and debuted the Xring O1 chip in a livestreamed Beijing event on Thursday.
- The launch follows a highly publicized fatal SU7 sedan crash in eastern China in March and reflects Xiaomi’s effort to expand beyond budget devices into autos and chips.
- The YU7 SUV will enter the market in July, offering a driving range of up to 835 kilometers and acceleration surpassing Tesla's Model Y, while the Xring O1 is a 3-nanometer chip rivaling Apple and Qualcomm.
- Xiaomi allocated 13.5 billion yuan towards the development of its Xring O1 chip, featured in the newly launched 15S Pro smartphone priced at 5,499 yuan . CEO Lei Jun asserted that this chip outperforms Apple’s latest A18 Pro in several areas.
- Xiaomi has announced a plan to invest upwards of 50 billion yuan over the next decade to develop its chip technology, supporting Beijing’s efforts to enhance domestic innovation and lessen dependence on foreign tech amid ongoing US-China tensions.
