Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade Shocks Ainsley Earhardt With Confederate Comment
Kilmeade said Lee should not be honored with a statue as Fox & Friends discussed lawsuits and monument reviews nationwide.
On Thursday, Brian Kilmeade surprised Fox News colleagues by opposing the restoration of a Robert E. Lee statue, arguing that Lee's decision to fight for the South was the "wrong choice."
The debate followed Fox News reporter Carley Shimkus noting that local governments face challenges reversing 2020 monument removals, including a Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus, Ohio, and a Lee monument in Charleston, South Carolina.
Co-Host Ainsley Earhardt questioned the stance, citing Kilmeade's past insistence to "not erase history." Kilmeade countered that Lee refused Lincoln's offer to command the Union Army, making his choice to fight for the South consequential.
Lawrence Jones argued Confederate statues in Texas need historical plaques explaining the Civil War rather than portraying figures as heroes, while Kilmeade distinguished such removals from taking down statues of Teddy Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March 2025 directing the Interior Department to restore removed monuments, marking a notable shift for Kilmeade, who in 2020 urged Americans not to destroy historical markers.
