WorldSkills Team Canada 2026 are Taking on the World in Shanghai
Canada’s 31 competitors earned medals and excellence awards after more than a year of training in 29 skill areas.
Canada's 31 Competitors earned 4 Medals and 13 Medals for Excellence at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, concluding on September 27.
The 31 members of WorldSkills Team Canada 2026, aged 18 to 22, competed across 29 Skill Areas against approximately 1,400 global Competitors during the six-day event.
Jorda Thomas from Regina, Saskatchewan, received Canada's Best of Nation Award for Graphic Design Technology. Chief Executive Officer Shaun Thorson said, "We are incredibly proud of the determination and dedication demonstrated."
This year marked Canada's 18th participation in the global event, highlighting the critical importance of skilled trade careers to the national economy.
With approximately 700,000 tradespeople expected to retire, Canada must recruit more than 300,000 skilled workers by the end of the decade, as the 49th WorldSkills Competition approaches in Aichi, Japan, in 2028.
