World War II Veteran Honored on 100th Birthday
Mayor Mindy Rump proclaimed “Martin Kuhr Day” as the World War II veteran marked his 100th birthday and decades of service to Blair.
Blair, Nebraska, celebrated Martin Kuhr's 100th birthday on July 7 with a surprise community celebration, where Mayor Mindy Rump proclaimed the day as "Martin Kuhr Day."
During World War II, Kuhr served in the Army Air Forces before dedicating decades to serving veterans and the Blair community throughout his life.
An active volunteer fireman for 30 years, Kuhr initiated the rescue unit in the Blair Fire Department and served as the first captain for two years.
Expressing gratitude for his family, Kuhr joked that he is already looking forward to celebrating his 150th birthday.
Staying active and appreciating life helped the 100-year-old man reach this milestone birthday, establishing a legacy of community service.
