Why Is Gary Lineker on ITV's World Cup Coverage?
Lineker will join ITV after leaving the BBC, with the broadcaster using a rooftop New York studio for the Group E match, reports said.
On Saturday, former BBC presenter Gary Lineker will make a surprise appearance as a pundit on ITV for the Group E World Cup match between Germany and Ivory Coast.
Lineker, who left the BBC last year, is currently based in New York City presenting daily episodes of The Rest is Football for Netflix overlooking Times Square.
The move follows criticism of the BBC's Salford-based studio, which Lineker previously mocked as a "green box" compared to ITV's rooftop setup overlooking the New York skyline.
BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski defended the studio, stating, "It's not a green box in Salford. It's a beautiful state-of-the-art studio," and argued viewer experience remains consistent.
Earlier in the week, Lineker commended ITV for resisting the use of contentious three-minute hydration breaks to insert commercial advertisements, distinguishing them from other broadcasters.
