WordPress Has a New AI Assistant to Help You Build Your Dream Website
The AI assistant integrates editing, media creation, and collaboration tools into WordPress.com, leveraging Google Gemini AI for image generation and editing on Business and Commerce plans.
- On Tuesday, WordPress.com, the website hosting platform from Automattic, announced a built-in WordPress AI assistant that expands its one-off AI site builder into a persistent editing and media tool.
- To make editing faster, WordPress.com emphasized three key areas: creating/editing content, generating/tweaking images, and colleague-style collaboration, with the assistant accessible via `@ai`.
- Inside the editor and Media Library, site editors can rewrite copy, suggest headlines, fact-check, and generate images using Google Gemini's Nano Banana models, with ease as Ronnie Burt said, `No copy-pasting, no prompt engineering, and no code to figure out what to do with.`
- AI Assistant is now generally available but users must opt in via their Sites list under Settings → AI tools, while AI-built sites receive it enabled by default.
