Woman who couldn’t ride a bike until she was 35 takes on 6,000km world record attempt
Sarah aims to beat the European record in a 6,000km ride with nine-country route, 30,000m of climbing and a £60,000 charity target.
On June 5, 2026, Sarah will begin a 6,000km European world record attempt, aiming to surpass the 2019 record held by Ian Walker of 16 days, 20 hours, and 59 minutes.
After recovering from a neurological disease diagnosed at age 15 that caused immobility, Sarah became an endurance cyclist, conquering the UK record in May 2025 in just over 5 days.
The journey involves climbing 30,000m across nine countries, with Sarah supported by a team in Dacia Bigster and Dacia Duster vehicles; she plans to cycle roughly 22 hours daily with 90 minutes of sleep per night.
Sarah aims to raise £60,000 for World Bicycle Relief, stating, "It's having the team right behind me in the Dacia vehicles, calling out to me from the window, trying to keep me awake, keep me motivated."
Reflecting on her transition to cycling, Sarah stated, "Just because your life is different doesn't mean it's worse," viewing new challenges as the greatest gift she could have given herself.
