Woman in critical condition after overnight shooting in Surrey
Surrey Police are examining possible links to extortion as a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting inside a residence early Sunday morning.
- On Sunday, Oct. 12, one woman was taken to hospital in critical condition after an overnight shooting at a home in the 13000 block of 103A Avenue, Surrey, B.C., with Surrey Police Service called at 2:42 a.m.
- The Surrey Police Service said investigators are probing connections to extortion as of Thursday, Oct. 9, Surrey recorded 33 extortion-related shootings and 59 reports not linked to shootings.
- Shortly after 7:40 a.m., officers arrived to find BCEHS paramedics administering `life-saving medical intervention` to a woman inside the residence who had been shot, and police closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 17 at Tannery Road at about 4 a.m. Sunday.
- Authorities are asking witnesses in the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. or with CCTV/dashcam footage to contact the Surrey Police Service non-emergency line or Crime Stoppers.
- Authorities note the shooting sits within a wider surge of extortion reports as police say the investigation is in an early stage, examining links with extortions in B.C.'s South Asian community.
