‘Toronto Is Ready’: Mayor Unveils Plans for New Practice Facility for City’s WNBA Team
The first WNBA facility of its kind in North America will include 2 indoor courts and 2,200 hours of annual community access, the city said.
- On Friday, the Toronto Tempo and the City of Toronto announced plans for the Tempo Performance Centre, a high-performance training facility and community recreation hub at Exhibition Place.
- Located at 701 Fleet St. near Coca-Cola Coliseum, the facility replaces an underused parking lot, with the Tempo funding the project entirely on City-owned land.
- The site will feature two regulation basketball courts and sports medicine areas, providing Torontonians at least 2,200 hours of annual access for public programming, including CampTO offerings and drop-in sessions.
- Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow praised the project as one that "delivers real benefits for residents," and the plan will be sent to Toronto City Council for approval by month's end.
- Construction is expected to begin this fall with a 2028 completion date, providing a lasting home for the team before their May 8 inaugural match against the Washington Mystics.
