Wizz Air Makes Monday Statement Confirming Major 2027 Change
The airline will be the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to use the service, and it has not said whether passengers will pay a fee.
Wizz Air, headquartered in Hungary, announced it is installing Elon Musk's Starlink internet system on all its "new generation" aircraft, becoming the first European ultra-low-cost airline to offer the technology starting next year.
Many other airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, have announced similar plans; Starlink, owned by billionaire Musk's SpaceX, uses thousands of satellites orbiting Earth to provide coverage.
Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin said, "Ultra-low-cost travel has always been about making the flying experience accessible to as many people as possible," emphasizing Wizz Air's commitment to combining affordable fares with reliable connectivity.
In January, a row erupted between Musk and Ryanair boss Leary over Starlink feasibility; Musk called Leary an "idiot" and "chimp," with Leary claiming the "PR spat" drove a 2-3% sales increase.
Wizz Air has not yet confirmed whether passengers will be charged a fee to use the service, leaving pricing details and implementation specifics unresolved ahead of the 2027 launch.
