Witnesses sought as Salmon Arm roadside arrest probed by B.C.'s police watchdog
The police watchdog is assessing whether injuries from the arrest meet the threshold for serious harm and is asking witnesses to come forward.
The Independent Investigations Office is seeking witnesses to a Sept. 2, 2025, arrest by Salmon Arm RCMP along Highway 97B involving a man, a woman, and a Toyota Tundra.
Just before midnight on Sept. 2, 2025, RCMP officers observed a white Toyota Tundra stopped at an angle in the 4100 block of Highway 97B with its passenger-side tire in the ditch, prompting an impaired driving investigation.
The woman involved contacted the IIO on April 13, 2026, reporting injuries sustained during the arrest, leading the agency to assess whether harm meets the 'serious harm' threshold defined by the Police Act.
IIO spokesperson Simon Druker stated the agency is examining whether officer actions caused the injury, with the chief civilian director ultimately determining if reasonable grounds exist for an offense.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477 as the investigation continues gathering evidence to clarify what occurred.
