Wisconsin State Patrol trooper dies after falling from freeway
Officials said the 29-year-old trooper died after falling from a bridge while deploying a tire deflation device during a traffic pursuit.
- Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Bradley Ritger, 29, died Friday, October 2, from injuries sustained after falling from an Interstate 94 bridge in Elk Mound during a traffic pursuit.
- During the September 21 traffic pursuit, Ritger deployed a tire deflation device on an I-94 bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line, then fell onto the roadway below while moving to cover.
- A member of the 67th Recruit Class, Ritger served the State Patrol's Northwest Region for nearly five years before that, having previously worked with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for three years.
- The State Patrol placed a memorial vehicle at the Northwest Region Post in Eau Claire where the public can leave condolences, as Gov. Evers mourned a 'young life lost far too soon.'
- Funeral arrangements are being made by the family, and Evers announced a forthcoming executive order to lower state flags in Ritger's honor when arrangements are finalized.
