Winners and Losers: Spielberg’s UFO Clash and Tom Hardy’s Trailer Tantrums
Spielberg says AI should remain a tool, not the final word, as Emily Blunt and other filmmakers favor human-made creative choices.
Director Steven Spielberg reaffirmed his opposition to generative AI for creative filmmaking, stating "Use AI as a tool, but do not use AI as the final word on anything creative."
In Steven Spielberg's upcoming film Disclosure Day, Emily Blunt stars as Kansas City meteorologist Margaret Fairchild and chose not to rely on generative AI during a pivotal sequence.
Blunt explained that she opted to create "really strange sounds" manually, including clicking and breathing noises, with a sound designer placing microphones by her mouth and throat.
Disclosure Day, premiering June 12, follows a cybersecurity whistleblower played by Josh O'Connor racing against a massive government conspiracy alongside Colin Firth and Eve Hewson.
Spielberg developed the story with screenwriter David Koepp, continuing a collaboration spanning Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds in his 37th directed feature.
