Wilmer Valderrama Reflects on Tragic ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Arc, 10 Years Later
Wilmer Valderrama says the role still brings fan recognition and recalls the on-set camaraderie that made the 10-year-old arc memorable.
Ten years have passed since actor Wilmer Valderrama guest-starred as Kyle Diaz on Grey's Anatomy, a guitarist whose MS-related hand tremors brought him to the hospital for treatment.
Shonda Rhimes cast Valderrama during a television break, warning him upfront: "But just so you know, I'm going to have to kill you." He replied, "Let's go, whatever it is."
Memorably, Kyle played guitar during a deep-brain stimulation procedure performed by surgeon Amelia Shepherd, while doctor Stephanie Edwards grew close to him throughout his treatment arc.
An infection developed following complications, leading to his death on the operating table and leaving Stephanie heartbroken after they reconciled before the fatal surgery.
Wilmer Valderrama told TV Insider fans still recognize him for the role, calling the Grey's Anatomy fanbase "passionate" for their enduring connection to the character and show.
