William R. “Bill” Peterson, 102, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, July 12, 2025.  Born in 1923 in Buffalo, he was the son of William M. and Genevieve Peterson.      Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served until early 1946.  He was stationed on the USS Denver, a Light Cruiser, which earned seven Presidential citations for gallantry in action in the South Pacific from the Solomon Islands north to Japan in a period of three years.      In …
