- On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister M. Siddaramaiah urged Pinarayi Vijayan to reconsider the Malayalam Language Bill, 2025, warning Karnataka would oppose it and defend the Kannada-speaking minority.
- Karnataka says the mandatory Malayalam requirement would adversely affect the Kannada-speaking linguistic minority, especially Kasaragod, citing Article 350A and Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution.
- The Karnataka government will write to the Kerala Governor and KBADA has already met him, while it will request an inquiry by the Linguistic Minorities Department and may seek President Droupadi Murmu's intervention.
- On Saturday, Pinarayi Vijayan defended the Bill, saying it aligns with the Official Languages Act, 1963, Articles 346 and 347, and Clause 7 protects Kannada and Tamil minorities.
- Quoting constitutional duty, Karnataka Chief Minister M. Siddaramaiah urged Kerala to engage in broader dialogue, saying `We have always upheld the principle that promotion of one's language must never become an imposition on another.
