Firefighters Tackle Wildfire in Pentland Hills Near Edinburgh
Six fire engines responded as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service warned a single spark can quickly cause widespread damage.
Emergency services responded to a wildfire at Torduff Reservoir near Edinburgh at 5.49pm on Thursday, with three fire engines remaining on site as of Friday morning.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Wildfire Forum issued a 'very high' risk warning for wildfires in eastern Scotland, effective from Friday through Monday.
Six fire engines were deployed at the peak of the incident, with three remaining on site through Friday morning; officials confirmed there were no reports of injuries.
Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Kenny Barbour urged residents to avoid lighting outdoor fires, stating 'even a single spark can quickly escalate,' and to report blazes immediately by calling 999.
A spokesperson for Pentland Hills Regional Park warned that landscape recovery from wildfires takes years, advising visitors to use waymarked paths and avoid walking or cycling on damaged areas.
