AGIOS DIMITRIOS, KOROPI, EASTERN ATTICA, GREECE, JUL 7 – At least one death was reported as firefighters and volunteers battled a large wildfire fueled by heatwaves, drought, and strong winds near Agios Dimitrios in Koropi.
- Wildfires spread across large parts of Syria's Latakia province and neighboring regions on and before July 4, 2025, forcing evacuations and killing two people.
- The fires erupted amid extreme heat, strong winds, drought, and worsening climate conditions never seen in 60 years, with explosion risks from war debris complicating firefighting.
- More than 75 firefighters, five elite teams, volunteers, helicopters, and aircraft alongside Jordanian and Turkish aid battled blazes that destroyed around 10,000 hectares and about 200 homes.
- Minister Raed al-Saleh announced on X that he is closely monitoring the situation and pledged a strong commitment to fighting the fires, which he described as catastrophic. Meanwhile, the UN emphasized the need for increased international support to address the crisis.
