Algeria: President Tebboune Extends Condolences Following Deadly Wildfires in Central, Eastern Provinces
President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent a condolence message Thursday to the families of the victims of the wildfires that swept through central and eastern provinces.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared on Thursday a national mourning after forest fires in the north-east of the country caused the death of at least 12 people and caused dozens of injuries.
Several regions of Algeria are affected by forest fires, especially in the north-east of the country. There are first fatalities. People flee from the fires, some important connecting roads had to be closed.
Many residents had to be evacuated to various prefectures, including Bejaia and Jijel, according to civil protection and local media. On Wednesday evening, 69 fires were still under way and were being fought by firefighters.
At least 12 deaths were reported by the Minister for the Interior and Transport, Saïd Sayud, on an emergency visit to the province of Béjaïa, in Cabilia. (ANSA)
