Wildfire smoke warnings continue to cover areas of Southern Interior
Orange and yellow alerts cover multiple regions as wildfire smoke is expected to keep air quality poor and visibility reduced, Environment Canada said.
- Environment Canada issued air quality warnings across the Southern Interior as smoke from the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires in the Fraser Canyon blanketed the region.
- On Tuesday, July 7, smoke in Kamloops reduced visibility so severely that streetlights activated in the late afternoon, affecting residents differently based on their health, age, and exposure.
- High-Impact orange level warnings cover the Shuswap, South Thompson, and West Columbia regions, while yellow-level warnings apply to the Fraser Canyon, Kinbasket, Nicola, North Columbia, and North Thompson.
- Residents are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity and stay indoors; use a well-fitted N95 or KN95 respirator if outdoors, or contact HealthLinkBC at 811 for information.
- The BC Lung Foundation's Carter's Project, launched in memory of nine-year-old Carter Vigh, continues installing air quality monitors in communities including 100 Mile House, 70 Mile House, and Watch Lake.
