Wildfire Recovery Work Taking Place in West Kelowna's Kalamoir Regional Park
Crews are removing loose rocks and trees after the June wildfire, with the regional district expecting more areas to reopen through the fall.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan began a three-week recovery project on October 5 at Kalamoir Regional Park in West Kelowna to address damage from the June 16, 2026 wildfire.
A wildfire sparked in the park on June 16, 2026, forcing the closure of the northern section due to safety concerns and terrain damage.
Visitors can still access the southern area, including Sunnyside Trail and Bowser Beach, from the main entrance at Collens Hill Road.
RDCO director of parks services Tracy Draper stated crews are working methodically to assess conditions and address safety concerns to move closer to a full reopening.
The regional district anticipates more of the park will open through the fall, though officials ask that all visitors continue to obey posted signage and barriers.
