Crews Dealing with Flare-up at Kalamoir Park Wildfire
Crews are using hose lines and a helicopter as they handle a small flare-up, while the blaze remains under control, officials said.
West Kelowna fire crews and the BC Wildfire Service responded to a flare-up at Kalamoir Regional Park on June 22, with West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund managing the situation as smoke rose from the site.
The original fire erupted June 16, burning 9.4 hectares of Kalamoir Regional Park near the Casa Loma neighbourhood. Although evacuation orders were lifted last week, the park remains closed for the foreseeable future.
Brolund noted that parts of the park are extremely steep with limited access to the fire site, making flare-ups more likely. Fire department and regional parks staff patrol the site regularly to check for hot spots.
Crews have established a hose line into the park and are filling a pool with water at the end of Benedick Road. The BC Wildfire Service has one helicopter en route to support initial attack efforts.
The incident remains classified as under control, with officials confirming there is no risk of additional spread. According to Black Press, light smoke can be seen rising from the park entrance.
