Grande Prairie County Wildfire Evacuation Order Expanded as B.C. Wildfire Cross Into Alberta
- On June 6, 2025, the County of Grande Prairie extended the area under evacuation as a wildfire crossed from British Columbia into Alberta.
- The wildfire, discovered May 28 near the Kiskatinaw River, spread across the provincial border fueled by a cold front causing volatile and shifting winds.
- Firefighters from the County of Grande Prairie, BC Wildfire Service, and Alberta Wildfire face aggressive fire behavior and have completed structural protection while increasing staffing and equipment.
- Residents living between Township Roads 700 and 740 to the north, and from the BC-Alberta border extending eastward to Range Road 130, are required to evacuate immediately and check in at the Hythe Community Library, which is open until midnight tonight and daily thereafter.
- The expanded evacuation aims to protect residents amid sustained winds of 30-50 km/h with gusts up to 75 km/h, while local groups have activated donation pages to support impacted communities.
