Wild wing Maxim Shabanov unsheathes his ‘Radulov’
Shabanov scored his first goal for Minnesota on a low shot past the Buffalo goalie, and coach John Hynes praised the Russians’ early chemistry.
On Tuesday, Minnesota Wild forward Maxim Shabanov scored his first goal with the team in a 3-2 overtime loss to Buffalo, less than two minutes after linemate Danila Yurov opened the scoring in the second period.
Wild coach John Hynes praised Yurov and Shabanov's contributions, noting both players had productive training camps and exhibition games while building chemistry with star forward Kirill Kaprizov.
The game marked a milestone for Kaprizov, who played his 400th career NHL game, while Yurov won 44% of his faceoffs in Buffalo, showing improvement after his struggles last season.
Shabanov celebrated his sixth career NHL goal with a signature move he calls "my Radulov," inspired by retired Russian standout Alexander Radulov, who scored 144 times in nine NHL seasons.
Seeing multiple members of Minnesota's quartet of Russians contribute early in the season serves as a positive omen, as players continue adjusting to the physical demands of the North American game.
