Yemeni Rebels Say They Struck Southwestern Saudi Arabia
Saudi officials said the missiles were aimed at a key oil export port and a southwest city as fighting with Houthi rebels intensified.
- On Thursday, Saudi Arabia intercepted six ballistic missiles aimed at the Red Sea port of Yanbu and the southwestern city of Taif as fighting with Iran-backed Houthi rebels escalated.
- The fighting is the latest episode in 12 years of civil war in Yemen, which had largely been frozen since a 2022 truce before the Houthis seized the western coast nearly two weeks ago.
- Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said Thursday the group attacked Saudi military sites in Jazan, targeting what he described as "operations rooms, command and control centres, weapons depots."
- According to the United Nations, more than 700 people have been killed in the latest fighting, with nearly 130,000 Yemenis displaced and more than 3,000 fleeing by boat across the Red Sea to Africa.
