Italian police can now more easily punish those who throw cigarettes or other waste out of their cars. This is foreseen by a government regulation that came into effect at the weekend. It will no longer be necessary to catch a motorist in the act to impose a fine. Throwing out a cigarette can result in a fine of up to 1,880 euros (47,000 crowns).
