UPDATE – EU ETS verified emissions fell 5.3% in 2024, preliminary like-for-like data shows « Carbon Pulse

Verified emissions reported under the EU ETS fell by 5.3% year-over-year in 2024, preliminary data released by the European Commission on Friday showed, when comparing greenhouse gas output on a like-for-like basis.

The second EU Emissions Trade System (ETS 2), which mainly covers emissions from buildings and road transport, will enter into force in 2027. Five EU member states (Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Spain) account for about 70 percent of emissions from the new carbon market.
