Adopted in second reading at the National Assembly on Thursday 11 June, the bill to nationalize ArcelorMittal revives the debate on French industrial sovereignty. Led by the left and supported by the unions mobilized in front of the Palais-Bourbon, it could well make industry a central theme of the presidential 2027.
MEPs again approved the nationalisation of ArcelorMittal France, supported by the left and the employees of the steel group. However, the project remains very uncertain, due to opposition from the government and the Senate.
The National Assembly again approved on Thursday the nationalization of ArcelorMittal. The measure is demanded by the employees of the steel group. But the Senate and the government are opposed to it. - ArcelorMittal: for the second time, the Assembly votes the nationalization (Economy).
Adopted on Thursday by the deputies, the text must now come back to the Senate and be put on the agenda by the government. Pending this uncertain horizon, the left boasts a notable political victory one year before the presidential elections.
The Senate and the government remain firmly opposed to this bill, reintroduced by the GDR (communist and ultra-marine) group and supported by the whole left, so it is unlikely to materialize.
